Major Retail Rezoning Approved
The Firm successfully secured a zoning amendment in December 2014 to in a Northern Westchester town to permit retail use in a research/office zoning district.
State Bar Leadership
The Firm is honored to announce that in November 2014 John S. Marwell was elected to the New York State Bar Association Executive Committee as a delegate-at-large, and in June 2014 was re-appointed as Chair of the Association’s Finance Committee, continuing SMHAL’s strong tradition of service to the legal community.

SMHAL Secures Victory Before Municipal Agencies
In March 2014, the Firm successfully represented a national restaurant chain before a Town Board in an attempt by a national retail chain to cause the restaurant client to pay substantially higher sewer rates.
SMHAL Assists Not-for-Profit with Construction Agreements
The Firm has represented a major cultural institution with a variety of construction agreements, including most recently, in 2014, an Architect’s agreement for restoration of facilities after Hurricane Sandy destruction.
John S. Marwell Receives State Bar's Attorney Professionalism Award
On January 30, 2014, John S. Marwell was named as the 2014 recipient of the Attorney Professionalism Award, given by the Committee on Attorney Professionalism of the New York State Bar Association. The award recognizes a member who displays the highest standards of professionalism, commitment to promoting respect for the legal system, outstanding ethical conduct, competence, good judgment, integrity and civility.
